The paintings that follow are executed primarily "en plein air" and the reasons for doing so have as much to do with studio size constraints as they have to do with preference. There are conflictual messages emanating from contemporary art dialogues to the making of landscape paintings. The thinking is that traditional landscape painting references a world of art and culture which no longer represents the world of today... but the natural world is an innocent bystander to the cultural propulsion of the age and its current fragility has become consequential. If the visual records of natural space harken to the past, they are also a contemplation of Nature sought out, often with prodigious effort and rendered today. This is because I believe the subject can still be studied....
